Get in or get out

I wanted to be the first to let you all know that I was accepted to the masters program at UTEP.  I honestly can’t imagine being the second person to tell you, cause I’m just not cool enough to be on the “let’s talk about other people” circuit.  I mean really, has anyone ever come up to you and said “Hey, did you hear what Barry’s been up to?”  No, probably not.

Anyway,  I’ll be working towards my MS in Intelligence and National Security Studies.  I’m totally looking forward to the complete nerd-core goings-on of the program.  I can finally have a socially acceptable place to discuss my view on torture, targeted killings, the future of intelligence collection, and the utter lack of intelligence demonstrated on a regular basis by John Mayer.

On a related note, I’m glad I’m not a jackass celebrity whose every idiotic word would be published for the world to see and mock.  Fortunately I’m a celebrity only to Axel, and he doesn’t know what “idiotic” means.  And as far as published, hell, only five people ever read this (you know who you are) and none of you folks would chastise me for my nonsensical ramblings.

Speaking of Axel, for some reason he’s sans pants this morning, just fashionable diaper and t-shirt.  Thirty more years and that could be me!  Here’s to the future!

Keeping up with the Joneses. And other quandries.

Despite my earlier resolution to keep up with this blog mbetter, it has come to my attentino that it has been well over a month since my last post. I’m terrible at resolutions and I am terrible at Scrabble, so I limit my dedication to both.  As a brief means fo rectifying one of these situations, here is a little update for you:

1. I have applied to grad school at UTEP.  I’m hoping to study for my Master’s in Intelligence and National Security Studies (sounds cooler that it is).

2.  I will begin courses at EPCC towards getting my Texas Peace Officer certification.  Yeah, its like police academy, but without Hightower and the dude who does the sound effects.

3.  Axel is huge.  He’ll be three months next week and he’s already growing OUT OF clothes designed for 6 month old kids.  Who the hell decides what the average baby size is?  They are sadly mistaken on a number of their estimates.

4.  I have been playing MW2 quite a lot lately, in anticipation of about 8 months with very little time for that particular activity.  However, I do intend to make some time to go through Assassin’s Creed 2 and possibly give Bioshock/Bioshock 2 another chance.

5. I have been going to the gym, and it is ridiculous.  I don’t feel in better shape, just sore.  I know that’s how it starts so I’m not giving up yet.  I like to work out for about an hour, then undo it all by following it up with a Baconator.

6.  I don’t have anything else, but 5 is an odd number, and I hate to have odd numbers of things on my lists.  Odd numbers are on my list of things that bug me.  Its a long list.  You wanna be on it?

So that’s that, the state of my union as of now.  I’m working on a new posting to go up soon, but it’s intense and is requiring a lot more time and research than I predicted.  No, it has nothing to do with my theories on countering asymmetric warfare in modern urban settings.  I’ll save that for another time.
